This is a chair made from reclaimed wood, plexiglass, repurposed steel cabinet shelving, found IKEA table legs and a pewter inlay. Made with the intent of having a mobile chair to use during art critique during graduate school that would provide space on the armrest to set and write/draw in a sketchbook. Secondary objective was to explore material use like the plexiglass in-lays and the pewter inlays, final objective was to create the chair at little or no cost using found materials as the main source for components.
Originally I had finished the chair without this detail, the pewter inlay, and the wood had ended with a large knot in the corner, and through regular use the knot eventually fell out. I was left with a problem, do I put it back or fill it in another way. I had some pewter left from undergraduate school, so I melted it down and poured it into a small improtou mold, sanded it down and there you have it, a interesting little quirk to a already odd chair.
This shows another unique to this chair that lead me to a unique experimentation in another work. Plexiglass is a fun material to work with and the way that it lights up on the edge has always fascinated me, so I decided to do something a little different. The chair sides posed a problem, I needed to join three boards together to get the right height and look for the chair, so in trying to decide how and what to use as inserts I arrived at plexiglass.
